Local children fly high with Flybe

Children from Southampton Children’s Hospital Piam Brown Ward enjoyed an early Christmas treat with families on a special 60-minute flight from Southampton Airport as the plane met up with Santa!
Flybe, Europe's largest regional airline, today (7th December 2017) took a group of children from the Piam Brown children’s cancer ward at Southampton Children’s Hospital on a festive flight, during which they were joined by a very special guest.

Having first enjoyed taking pictures in Flybe’s giant Snow Globe that is at Southampton Airport for two days, the specially chartered flight BE8888 took off with the 30 children and their families for a memorable journey to meet Santa.
During the hour-long flight over the South Coast and general Solent area, Santa met up with the aircraft to hand out Flybe teddy bears to each child.
Flybe’s Interim Chief Commercial Officer, Ronnie Matheson, commented: “It was a real pleasure to give something back to the community at this special time of the year and give this deserving group of brave young people what we hope was a memorable experience. We were, of course, thrilled that Santa was able to take a moment out of his busy Christmas preparations to join us for a while and meet the children for this pre-Christmas treat!”
Rachel Funnell, Piam Brown Ward’s charity coordinator said “This is going to be a truly incredible experience for all the families involved. It will be a really special trip, helping to build up those precious memories for our young cancer patients and their families.”
“Southampton Hospital Charity are extremely grateful for Flybe’s generous gift. This festive period is never a time when anyone wants to be in hospital, so this experience will help them forget everything else which is happening. Our thanks to Flybe for making this possible.”
