Active Nation toy donation for hospital children

Today members of Active Nation and their mascot, Chambers the Cat, have given out over 100 soft toys to children at Southampton General Hospital.

Fiona Delement, play specialist, comments: “We were thrilled when we heard that Active Nations were donating Disney toys to Southampton Hospital Charity and to the children who are in hospital over this festive period. This is the second year that Active Nation have visited the hospital, and it was really successful.”
“The children all loved seeing Chambers the Cat and parents appreciated the Mickey Mouse toy to provide a distraction. We are really grateful to the team at Active Nation for their generosity in donating these gifts to our patients.”
Mark Learnihan, Contract Manager, said: “This is the second year that we have come into the hospital to give Disney toys to the children. It is a very humbling and moving experience talking to the children and parents, most of whom will be here over Christmas, and by coming here today we are hoping to bring just a little bit of joy and happiness to these brave and courageous children at this time of year.”
Active Nation are a sport and exercise charity who manage eight Southampton Leisure Facilities, including The Quays Swimming and Diving Complex and The Outdoor Sports Centre on behalf of and in partnership with Southampton City Council. The charities mission is to persuade the nation to be active through campaigning to provide its supporters with the information and facilities they need to lead a healthier lifestyle.
Active Nation received the donated toys from charity In Kind Direct, an organisation set up to re-distribute goods from companies to charities across the UK.
The donation was made possible thanks to Disney Store’s partnership with In Kind Direct for their annual Disney ‘Share the Magic’ campaign, and was part of a total of 10,000 toys distributed by In Kind Direct to hundreds of charities in the UK, bringing Christmas joy to thousands of children.
Mark added, “since joining In Kind Direct in January 2011, Active Nation has received almost £12,000 worth of goods, helping us save money and do more for our supporters in the local community.”
