F7 transition ward

On ward F7, our staff help patients to live as normal a life as possible. However, more could be done if there was money available.

Elderly patient with nurse"F7 is a a transition ward for older people who are now medically fit and stable, but are waiting for discharge. Most were brought into hospital following a fall."

"We aim to treat our patients as if they are at home and help them to be as independent as possible. At the heart of our care is keeping them mobilised little and often, so their muscles don't get weak and their mood doesn't drop." Rita Campelo, F7 ward leader

Dedicated staff on F7 ward are hoping to mirror the work done in the medicine for older people's hub by creating a different experience for patients that feels less like a typical hospital ward and encourages people to get well.

With your support, we hope to fund some extras, like sofas, to help patients feel more settled and encourage them to get out of bed. It will lift their mood, keep their mind occupied and help them to get back home and enjoying life again.

Help the hospital staff make a real difference to patient's lives. To date (November 2019) we have raised £8,481 towards the £10,900 target to complete this project. Donate today

Healthcare assistant Inez tells us more...

This is about helping the elderly patients in our care as they try to get back to living as normal a life as possible.
They have spent a great deal of time inactive on a ward during their treatment and need help relearning how to do what we would consider simple things like eating, drinking liquid, or doing exercise.
Some of our patients have a really good support network and have family that come and visit them.
Others, though, do not have anyone that comes and sees them and they can sit looking very bored, shutting themselves away from what is going on around them.
Whenever I go on my shift, I play music on my phone while I walk along the ward and you can see the patients turn to look and smile. It brightens up their day.
I used to play Abba to them and they seem to like this. It would be great to be able to raise enough money to get equipment that can help occupy their minds, such as some TVs, board games, and extra seating like sofas. This is about helping our patients and getting them ready so they can take up normal activites again.
