Gifts for patients

Southampton Hospital Charity would like to give you the opportunity to make a difference to someone in hospital. There are many times throughout the year, such as Easter and Christmas, where patients would appreciate a small gift so they know that somebody is thinking about them. The smallest of gestures can make a real difference to our patients.

Year-round we are in need of tea, coffee and biscuits for adult and elderly care clinics, as well as craft materials for use in our Southampton Children’s Hospital.

Unfortunately we cannot take any second hand items for infection prevention purposes. We apologise for the inconvenience. Items must be new and with tags.

Easter is a time to celebrate Spring in the knowhow that Summer and warmer weather is on its way. To spread cheer this Easter, why not buy a gift for someone in hospital.

Easter eggs

Southampton Hospital Charity wish list:
  • Easter eggs for our patients across University Hospital Southampton and Princess Anne Hospital
  • Diabetic chocolate, biscuits or a small present e.g. toiletries, that we can give our diabetic patients
  • Tea, coffee, squash for ward waiting areas and kitchens

We must receive all gifts to the Southampton Hospital Charity offices during the week leading up to Easter (between 19-27 March 2018).

All donations can be dropped off to the charity offices. We are based in Southampton General Hospital just off the main retail area. If you let us know you are coming then we can come out with a trolley or cage to help offload the gifts – 023 8120 8881.

Donations are also important to us this Easter:

This year, instead of Easter eggs, we are asking you to support our young patients directly through donating towards play activities:

  • £5 could cover the cost of multi-sensory play equipment for children with special needs.
  • £12 could cover the costs of a patient to attend a themed arts and crafts session.
  • £20 could cover the costs of sending a patient to our annual Easter Mad Hatters tea party.
  • £150 could help us pay for a research project which is combating hospital anxiety in teenage patients.

Contact the Southampton Hospital Charity team on 023 8120 8881 or to find out more.

There are patients who have to remain in hospital over the Christmas period, and some have no family to visit them. By donating a gift, you can make someone’s Christmas extra special.

Christmas wish list for our teenager and adult services:

  • Magazines, colouring and puzzle books for adults
  • Toiletry gift sets, nail files, mirrors, shaving sets
  • Mince pies, tins of biscuits, Christmas treats including gluten free and those suitable for diabetics for our outpatient and day clinics
  • Personal hygiene sets, such as toothbrushes, toothpaste and wet wipes
  • Tea and coffee for our cancer information and support centre and memory cafes for patients with dementia

Christmas for our Southampton Children's Hospital patients:

Every Christmas, our play and youth service organise fun activities for the patients and their families to take part in over the festive period. Support your local children's hospital this Christmas, and help us to make magical memories for some of our youngest patients.

This year we have enough presents pledged to cover all of the children in hospital over the Christmas period. If anyone wishes to donate instead, we are asking they donate the gift of money for our play team to put on these activities throughout Christmas, and into the New Year.

Hospital is never a place where you want to be, but gifts like this show that someone cares. Imagine the difference it makes - If it was your child, or your grandparent...
